Tech Data adds Casper Suite native Apple platform management

Distributor Tech Data has announced an exclusive agreement with JAMF Software to make its Casper Suite available to Tech Data’s channel of 60,000 resellers in North America.”The IP behind this, like the audience it is for, are very Mac focused,” said Greg Parsonson, vice president of Client Systems Product Marketing at Tech Data. “They are laser-focused on the Apple market.”

Casper Suite is the only client management solution developed exclusively for the Apple Platform. A unified and extensible framework for Mac OS X and iOS client management software, it provides a comprehensive platform to manage both Mac OS X computers and iOS mobile devices. It also enforces software licensing compliance, security standards, energy usage, and other organizational rules and requirements.

“The number of dedicated Apple users, combined with the popularity of BYOD today, make this a very timely product,” Parsonson said.

Casper manages twelve separate tenets in a single console. Eight of them relate to Mac OS X client management (inventory, imaging, patch management, software distribution, remote control, settings and security management, license management, and usage management). The other four relate to iOS mobile device management (inventory, configuration, security, management, and app distribution).

This is JAMF’s first plunge into the distribution channel.

“They have been direct with some of their end users, and they have worked with DMRs, but this is their first real channel initiative,” Parsonson said.

Parsonson thinks that this won’t be a narrow niche product in the channel, and that it will have a fairly broad pickup.

“I think it will be a broader scope, because of BYOD and how pervasive it is coming,” he said.
